I tried to make this a step by step how to change a compressor video. Darn batteries in my camera went dead in the middle of the show. Maybe next time.
R22 is a blend of oil and refrigerant, if your half low on R22 then that means your half low on oil. this is also another reason why it isn’t good to keep recharging the unit instead of fixing the leak because of the extra wear and tear on your compressor. 410A is said to be different, if you have a leak in the system, there is no way in telling what the oil level is. solution is to evacuate the system, fix leak and then recharge.
Changing the oil in a small hermetic compressor like the one in this video isn’t an easy task. You have to remove the compressor and empty out all of the oil then put in the new oil.
It’s really hard to determine how much oil that you lost due to the leak. If you’re concerned about not having the exact 25 ounces then you’d have to change the oil in the compressor.
I have an air conditioner R22 3.5 ton unit that I am working on. It was damaged in shipment and lost all of its refrigerant. I have stripped it down and located the break on the liquid line, right as it exits the coil and enters the line going to the filter drier. I will braze it back together tomorrow, vacuum it down to at least 500 microns and then recharge it up. What my question is, is how much oil do I put back into the system? The hermetic compressor shows a capacity of 25 ounces.
Add oil to only compressors that have a built-in crankcase sightglass. You’ll see an oil level line that’s usually showing to fill the oil to the middle of the sightglass.
i am an apartment tech. and am having problems with one unit and i hope you can help. how can i check to see if a unit is overcharged? you help is greatly appreciated.
1st, check for leaks. pressurize your system & check your repairs (soap bubbles), pull vacuum with vac. pump, using your gauge manifold (don’t seem you own a micron gauge) down to 30″ Hg. held at least 15 mins. (or more, if not: repeat step 1) before charging. Weigh your charge using a scale, purge lines (put your bottle inverted on the scale) and charge liquid to your high side to the same amount on the spec plate. If you desperately need answers, explaining other methods will just confuse you.
You should pulla vacuume foe 20 to 30 mon after the gauge reaches 30″ vacuume, prefferable usein a micron gauge and make sure that the system will hold a vacuume for 15 min BEFORE charging.
Thanks for watching my videos and for thinking that I’m the best. Please stay tuned for my next video. I replaced a compressor today and I taped it. I have to do the editing so I should have it up in the next couple of days.
hey dr z i am working in aparment in charlotte nc i am tech and have a problem i fixed the leak but know i dont have any freon on the system so how and how much i need to charged r-22 the unit is 2.0 ton 13 seer 1 year old and then one more thing my friend can you hang some video how to replaced compressor in gas package 2.5 ton please gracias amigo your the best dont listen to those jack *** talking **** eres el mejor
You really need to call a qualified a/c tech to find the leak in the system. There are special tools that are required to do the job right and after you’ve fixed the problem, you’d have to charge the system with new refrigerant.

Hey, Jimmy Z lol, I was wondering.. Can you put PTCs on any compressor? Even if they didnt have one to start out with? If so, how can you tell a compressor needs one.. are there any specific kind?

6 degrees of subcooling is very acceptable on many brands. gettin in the habit of expecting 10-20 subcooling is going to lead you to do a lot of overcharging. the most common mistake new techs make

subcooling is 7 degrees
235psig=113 deg condensing temp -106 liquid line temp= 7 deg subcooling for an R-22 System

does anyone know how to wire a latching relay coil to stop a compressor from short cycling due to a leaky solenoid valve?

Thanks for the information. When should you add oil to a freshly charged system? How much?

The compressor must be a single phase compressor that does not require a proprietary start cap.
