If you know nothing about house heaters, you can get quite an education online and become quite knowledgeable in very little time.
House heaters come in many sizes, shapes and forms. There are the standard forced air furnaces, wall furnaces, hanging furnaces, floor furnaces, boilers, heat pumps, electric heat, self-contained air conditioners with a heat option, ductless mini-split air conditioners with heating all in a system, console room heaters, electric baseboard heating and hotel-style heating (and cooling) units.
The first thing to consider though is why are you looking for house heaters? Did your home heater or water heater break down? Are you searching for new technology to upgrade your current system?
If you live in a major city, just open your phone book. Don’t search for house heaters; search for only one word: heaters. You may be as surprised as I was to find over 16 pages of listings about different companies that deal with house heaters.
It’s really amazing what can be learned just from the phone book about house heaters. One company reported that when someone’s furnace breaks down, there are four things that can happen that can aggravate a person even more than not having heat. Those four things were:
1) not talking to a live person and getting stuck with the voice mail
2) getting shocked with an invoice
3) messy technicians
4) when something goes wrong with the house heaters, no one stands behind their guarantee.
All I know is as a renter, when the house heaters break down, it’s a poor reflection of the management when they don’t get someone out there as fast as possible.
